Purple and gold jump into tie for third at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Fighting through cold temperatures and strong winds, the Tennessee Tech men's golf team climbed the leaderboard at the 11th Annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate Monday afternoon, completing round two of action on the River Course at Sevierville Golf Club.

Belmont again topped the 15 teams in the field, recording a 295 to sit at 577 overall, albeit with a smaller lead than it entered the day with. The Golden Eagles climbed from fifth to a tie for third on the day, registering a 293 to match the two-day effort of Ohio Valley Conference rival Southern Indiana. 

Chicago State's Pablo Riveiro paced all 92 golfers in competition, sporting back-to-back rounds of 70 for 140 overall.

For the second consecutive day, sophomore Haden Maxwell led the Tech effort on the links, boasting a 1-under 70 to tie for fourth place with a total of 143. The youngster compiled three birdies and an impressive 13 pars along the way. 

Senior Sean Anderson and sophomore Anders Larson tied for 22nd after both ending the day with total scores of 149. Anderson tallied a 75 behind a birdie and 12 pars while Larson carded a trio of birdies in his round two.

Rounding out the scoring for the Tech lineup was junior Jackson Skeen, delivering a 75 with a pair of birdies to tie for 38th with a total score of 153. Senior Mark McDearman registered a 77 on the day, tying for 32 overall with a two-day score of 151.

Competing as individuals were a trio of Golden Eagles led by freshman Alex Broyles. The youngster notched a 76 to tie for 43rd with a 154, racking up 14 pars for the day. Alexander Bassel turned in a birdie for an 80 and a total of 158 while Avery Irwin tacked on an 82 with three birdies to produce a composite score of 161.

The third and final round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate will kick off with tee times off the first and 10th holes, starting at 9:00 a.m. CT.
