Second round of NCAA Regional shows marked improvement by Tech men's golf team

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team showed great improvement on the links Tuesday afternoon, completing round two of the NCAA West Lafayette Regional at the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. 

The Golden Eagles knocked 21 strokes off their total from day one, firing a 290 to sit at 601 through two rounds of play. Tech ranked 13th on the leaderboard while Vanderbilt paced the field with a total of 560, just one shot ahead of regional host Purdue. The Boilermakers' Kent Hsiao led all individuals with a 7-under 65, moving into first place among the 72 participants with a 136.

For the purple and gold, Sean Anderson doubled down on leading the Cookeville crew for the second day in a row by carding a 2-under 70. The senior racked up five birdies and 11 pars, tying for 28th overall with a two-day score of 145.

Haden Maxwell delivered a nice second round of action for the Golden Eagles, shooting even par with a nearly spotless scorecard. He produced three birdies and a whopping 14 pars on his way to a total of 148, tying for 44th on the leaderboard. 

Tying for 60th was Jackson Skeen, ending Tuesday's round with a total of 153. He finished the day with a 77, tallying a birdie and an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole. Senior Mark McDearman turned in an even-par 72, shredding 12 shots from his day one total while displaying four birdies and 10 pars for a 156 composite score. 

Rounding out the Tech lineup, freshman Alex Broyles ended his second round with a 76, knocking eight shots from his first round. He ended the first two days of the regional with a 160, adding two more birdies to his total for the week. 

The third and final round of the NCAA West Lafayette Regional will commence at 7:00 a.m. CT Wednesday morning. The Golden Eagles will open their second round with tee times beginning at 8:50 a.m. off of hole number one.
