Golden Eagles wrap up first round of NCAA Regional action in program history

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – History was officially made for the Tennessee Tech men's golf team Monday afternoon, as the Golden Eagles wrapped up their first-ever round of NCAA Championship golf in program history, completing the first 18 holes of action at the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. 

The purple and gold ended day one of play with a 311, ranking 13th overall among the NCAA Regional squads competing in West Lafayette, Ind. Vanderbilt led the field with an 11-under 277, a course record in NCAA play at the Kampen Course. Wisconsin's Cameron Huss led all golfers with a 6-under 66 while competing as an individual, the lowest round in NCAA play at the Kampen Course.

Senior Sean Anderson was the leader in the clubhouse for the Cookeville crew following Monday's opening round, registering a 3-over 75. Tying for 40th among 75 golfers, the veteran turned in two birdies and 11 pars in his first taste of NCAA postseason action. 

Next among the Golden Eagles on the leaderboard were sophomore Haden Maxwell and junior Jackson Skeen, tying for 48th overall with scores of 4-over 76. Maxwell carded four birdies with eight pars while Skeen delivered a pair of birdies with 12 pars. 

Rounding out the Tech lineup were senior Mark McDearman and freshman Alex Broyles, each tallying rounds of 84. McDearman notched a birdie with six pars while Broyles tacked on a birdie and nine pars. 

Round two of the NCAA West Lafayette Regional will commence at 6:30 a.m. CT Tuesday morning. The Golden Eagles will open their second round with tee times beginning at 8:20 a.m. off of hole number one.
