Pair of top-five performances lead Tech to sixth at The Grover Page Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. – Another solid day on the links led the Tennessee Tech men's golf team to a sixth-place performance at The Grover Page Classic Tuesday afternoon, as the purple and gold concluded action at Jackson Country Club in Jackson, Tenn.

The Golden Eagles turned in a 1-over 289 for the final round of the week, finishing the tournament at 6-under with an 858, just four shots back of fifth-place Belmont. Host UT Martin captured the title behind a 23-under 841 for the week. Missouri State's Hampus Wijkstrom held on to his individual lead to win medalist honors with a 14-under 202.

A pair of All-Tournament performances led the Tech crew for the week, with returning All-OVC golfers Jackson Skeen and Anders Larson tying for fourth place among the 93-man field. Skeen delivered four birdies as part of a 2-over 74 on the day to account for his 7-under 209.

A sophomore, Larson carded his third consecutive round under par for the event with his second 69 in as many days. He also produced a 7-under 209 to set a new career-low performance, backed by six birdies throughout the final round.

Showing consistency again, fellow sophomore Haden Maxwell delivered a 2-over 74 with three birdies to his credit. He tied for 37th overall after securing a 4-over 220 for the week.

Veterans Sean Anderson and Mark McDearman both tied for 60th in the field with scores of 224. Anderson tallied a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par-5 fifth on his way to a 4-over 76. McDearman shot even par for the day, racking up four birdies for a 72.

Completing his first collegiate tournament was rookie Peyton Ogle, tying for 73rd with a 228. Competing as an individual, he tallied a final round of 79 with four birdies. Also taking part as an individual, junior Alexander Bassel tied for 78th with a 229 after posting an even-par 72 with three birdies on Tuesday.

The Golden Eagles will return to action at The Carolina Cup in Spartanburg, S.C. The three-day event, hosted by USC Upstate at The Carolina Country Club, will run from Sunday, Oct. 8 through Tuesday, Oct. 10.
