SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team finished off the second of three rounds of action at The Carolina Cup Monday afternoon, leaving one round of play at the Carolina Country Club on the schedule for Tuesday morning.
The Golden Eagles wrapped up day two of the event in Spartanburg, S.C. 15th overall, totaling 623 through two rounds. Winthrop moved into sole possession of the top spot, boasting a 589. UTSA's Hunter Bott took over the No. 1 position on the individual leaderboard, posting a 3-under 141 through two days.
Leading the way for the purple and gold for the second straight day were reigning All-Ohio Valley Conference Team honorees Jackson Skeen and Anders Larson. A junior, Skeen turned in a 2-over 74 with a pair of birdies and 12 pars to tie his teammate for 33rd among 83 golfers.
Larson, a sophomore, also delivered a 2-over 74 with two birdies. The youngster contributed 13 pars to the mix as well. Fellow sophomore Haden Maxwell was next among the Golden Eagle lineup, completing the day with a 78. Sporting a 162 overall, Maxwell produced one birdie and an eagle on the par-5 18th hole.
Senior Mark McDearman carded an 82 to sit at a composite score of 170 through two rounds. Junior Avery Irwin totaled a 103 to finish the day at 180 overall for the event.
The third and final round of The Carolina Cup will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT for the Golden Eagles as part of another set of split tee times.
