BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the first time in his young career, Tennessee Tech's Hayden Maxwell was honored as the Ohio Valley Conference's Male Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league Friday morning.

The Golden Eagle sophomore helped lead the purple and gold to a sixth-place showing among 13 teams at the Bryan National Collegiate earlier this week, firing the second-lowest, 54-hole score of his career with a 1-over 217.

A native of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., he kicked off the event with a 2-over 74 to open play. Maxwell topped that showing in the second round, firing a career-low-tying round of 5-under 67. He wrapped things up with 76 to produce the 217, just one stroke back of his career-best score.

Madwell represents the first Tech men's golfer to take home a weekly honor from the OVC this season.

The Golden Eagles will officially begin the spring season at the Sea Palms Invitational in St. Simons Island, Ga., competing at the Sea Palms Resort Thursday, Mar. 7 through Saturday, Mar. 9.
