JONESBORO, Ark. – First half woes buried the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team as they were unable to bounce back against the Arkansas State RedWolves on Wednesday afternoon, suffering their fourth-straight loss, 90-75.
The RedWolves, who got 22 first-half points from Aundrea Gamble by going 5-6 from deep, and 8-10 from the field, led the Golden Eagles 52-25 at the intermission. Twelve first-half turnovers also plagued Tech as they were staring at a large deficit to overcome in the second 20 minutes.
Despite emerging from half strong, scoring 14 points to the RedWolves first six points, the Golden Eagles could not close the gap within 20 points until the final minute when a layup by junior Candace Parson made the final basket to cut the lead to 15, the final spread. However, Tech outscored ASU 50-38 in the final period, but it just wasn't enough.
The Golden Eagles saw junior T'Keyah Williams come off the bench for a career-high 21 points and eight boards. Junior Diamond Henderson added 19 points, four rebounds and three assists, and Parsons added 13 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Catherine Taylor added a career-best 10 points and five rebounds.
Gamble led all scores as she finished 28 for the RedWolves, Jalen O'Bannon added 15, and Jane Morrill dropped 14. The RedWolves forces 20 turnovers while only committing 13 of their own. They also saw nine different players score.
The Golden Eagles are back in action at the University of Arkansas on Friday at 7 p.m. CT.
