COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech women's basketball coach Jim Davis introduced the team's newest member this week with the signing of Asia Harper, a 6-foot forward from Fayetteville, Ga.
"Asia Harper is about six feet tall and has great length that I love," Davis said. "She can play inside and outside and handles the ball well. She has hops, and is a good athlete. She is a student of the game and has a tremendous upside, and I believe she will be a very good player in the Ohio Valley Conference. She has a lot of versatility in her game, and will help bring her winning attitude to the tradition at Tennessee Tech. She will get it done in the classroom as well as on the hardwood."

Asia Harper is a four-year varsity letterwinner who helped her team earn back-to-back-to-back region championships in 2011, 2012 and 2013. As a junior, Harper was a member of the Class AAAA Georgia State championship team. During that season she earned the Most Improved Player award after averaging 10 points, five rebounds and four assists per game. Not only does Harper bring strong play to the court, she will bring a strong work ethic in the classroom as she ranks in the Top 90 of over 400 students in her class with a 3.3 GPA. She also earned a President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievements in 2010.
Asia on her commitment: "I'm excited and happy that I was able to achieve what I have been working so hard for (with a Division I scholarship). I am a bigger guard and think I will be able to bring an inside and outside presence to the Golden Eagle program."
Harper on choosing Tech: "I chose TTU because of the coaching staff. Coach (Bart) Walker had been watching and following me since I was in ninth grade. Through my ups and downs as a player, he still saw my potential and thought I could be of help to the team. He made sure Coach Davis and all the other coaches saw it, too. No other team did that. And Coach Erin (Batth) is hilarious!"
Fayette County High School coach John Strictland on Harper: "Asia is a tremendous player. She played for me for the last four years and is one of my team captains this season. She is naturally strong and has a great basketball IQ. She is actively learning the game and playing all the time. Tennessee Tech is getting a great player and a great person. She is a leader on our team and a leader in the school community."
