COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team (1-0) hits the road this week for the first time this season, heading to Ohio to challenge the University of Akron Zips (1-0) in a nonconference game. The two teams will meet Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. CT.

In a rematch from last year, the Golden Eagles will be looking for redemption as Akron handed Tech its first loss of the 2012-13 season, 78-67. The Zips return 10 players from last year's game, including Rachel Tecca, a 6-1 senior, who led Akron in scoring with 26. Tech returns seven from last year, including Diamond Henderson, who put up a career-high 31 points off the bench in the battle with the Zips.

"We are expecting a very similar game to last year, we are just hoping the outcome is different" said TTU head coach Jim Davis. "They beat us at home by 10 points last year, and they have just about everyone back, and the game is in Akron. They are an up-tempo team, they run like crazy, even their posts run like crazy, so our defensive transition is going to be the key to success against them."

This game also pits two conference championship runners-up against each other, each who have something to prove this season. Akron lost in the Mid-American Conference tournament championship game to Central Michigan and Tech lost in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship game to UT Martin.

The Golden Eagles are looking to build off their season opener where they defeated Tennessee Wesleyan, 94-41. Tech had five players put up double-digit points. Senior Molly Heady scored a team-high 15, freshman Hannah Goolsby added 14, Henderson tallied 12, and junior T'Keyah Williams and graduate student Kayla Brewer each dropped 11 points. Tech will look to use that offensive distribution throughout the season.

The game in Akron will be available on 106.1 FM The Eagle, with Kevin Bostian calling the action. A video feed is also provided by Akron and the link is available above.
