COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The 2013-14 basketball season officially begins Tuesday night at Tennessee Tech as the Golden Eagle women's basketball team hosts Truett-McConnell in an exhibition match at 7 p.m. CT in the Eblen Center.
The Ohio Valley Conference regular season champion Golden Eagles, who fell just short in the OVC tournament championship game last season, are ready to hit the floor. Returning seven from the 2012-13 squad, coach Jim Davis' team was picked to finish first in the East Division in the OVC preseason poll.
Look for senior Molly Heady and junior Diamond Henderson to lead the way for the Golden Eagles this season. Heady has been a solid contributor during her time at Tech. She averaged 6.7 points and 4.5 rebounds last season while shooting 44.3 percent from the field, and 40.9 percent from behind the 3-point arc. A 2012-13 first-team All-OVC player, Henderson averaged 15.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists last year, and scored a career-high 31 points against Akron last November. Both were named to the preseason All-OVC team this season.
A live webstream of the exhibition game will be avaliable on the
OVC Digital Network and will be called by Dylan Vazzano of the
Golden Eagle Sports Network. It can also be heard on the Golden
Eagle Sports Network broadcast with veteran Roger Ealey calling the
action.
Tickets for Tuesday's game, as well as season tickets to watch all
27 home men's and women's games, are on sale now at the Athletics
Ticket Office in Eblen Center or by calling (931) 372-3940.
Tech will open the regular season Saturday evening by hosting Tennessee Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
