Golden Eagle athletes help with Great Move In Day

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech student-athletes and coaches were out in force Thursday as they helped hundreds of incoming students move into their residence halls during the University's annual Great Move-In Day.

The event marks the first day on which students can move into on-campus housing for the fall semester, which begins next Monday.

Numerous student-athletes participated in lending students a hand, carrying everything into the dorms from linens and clothing to refrigerators. Besides getting in a good workout, the Golden Eagles also took the opportunity to meet their new classmates and help establish interest in their teams.

The Tech campus was a beehive of activity Thursday, and the incoming freshmen and their families expressed gratitude to the teams for their assistance, promising to return the support with their attendance at Golden Eagle athletic events.

"One of the very first memories that every college student has about their college career is moving out of their parents’ home and moving into their new dorm for their first semester. It can be an exciting and tiring experience," said Director of Athletics Mark Wilson. "Our student-athletes really enjoy the opportunity to get out and help, to meet some of the new, incoming students, and strike up friendships.

"The incoming students that they help to move in will be in the stands watching them compete, and it gives the students a little extra incentive to support the teams whenever they personally know the player," Wilson added. "Our kids are a part of the campus community, and they want to get involved."
