Tech women's basketball earns first road win at Alcorn State

By Jocelyn VerVelde, Sports Information Coordinator

LORMAN, Miss. – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team (3-4) used balanced scoring and stifling second half defense to earn its first road win of the season as they beat Alcorn State (1-5), 66-38 on Thursday night.

Scoring came from all angles as the Golden Eagles saw nine players make it in the scorer's book. Junior Diamond Henderson led the way with 14 points, freshman Hannah Goolsby scored 13, and junior T'Keyah Williams added nine. Graduate student Kayla Brewer pulled down a game-high and career-high eight boards, five of which were offensive.

Twelve of Henderson's 14 points came in the second, and that marked the fourth-straight game that not only did Henderson lead the Golden Eagles in points, but did that by scoring double-digits in the second half.

Tech's impressive second half defense held the Braves to just 17 points in the second half, and did not allow a basket until the 10:33 mark.  They also held ASU to just 29.4% shooting in the second half, and just 32.5% in the game.

Rebounding also helped the Golden Eagles. Outrebounding the Braves, 26-18, Tech moved to 3-0 when they win that category and are 0-4 when they have lost the rebound battle. Led by Brewer's eight, Williams added four, Goolsby and sophomore Tia Nicholson each added three.

The Golden Eagles move on to the University of South Alabama on Saturday for a 1:05 p.m. CT game that will be broadcast on 106.1 FM The Eagle, directly following the men's basketball game at the University of Tennessee.
