MOBILE, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team fought hard in the second half, but was unable to overcome the 33-18 halftime deficit as the University of South Alabama took the game, 66-58.
Coming out of the half, Tech opened up trading baskets with the Jaguars. Off a freshman Catherine Taylor layup, the Golden Eagles closed the game to a ten-point gap. It looked as if that was the closest Tech would get, however behind some stingy defense and a strong press, the Golden Eagles forced three straight turnovers and nine straight points from Diamond Henderson to bring the game within five, 55-50 with 2:13 to play.
Despite strong defensive play, stopping the clock became a priority and the Golden Eagles were forced to foul, giving the Jaguars an opportunity to extend their lead. South Alabama's last 11 points were all from the charity stripe.
Henderson's game-high 21 points and a career-best 14 points from junior Candace Parson led the Golden Eagles. Parson played arguably her best game of the season as she added six boards and a career-best three blocks. Tech again saw nine different players score.
The Jaguars were led by Colby Davis who tallied 14 points, Meghan Dunn added 12, and Brittany Webb added 10. Forward Ronneka Robertson pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles return to the Eblen Center on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m CT as they take on in-state foe University of Memphis.
