COOKEVILLE, Tenn . – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team hosts the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in a 7 p.m. CT Ohio Valley Conference East Division showdown on Monday night.
On Monday, the basketball team will host its "Think Pink" game. The first 1,000 fans to the Eblen Center will receive a free, specially designed "Think Pink" t-shirt.
In addition, fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing pink to the game and purchase tickets for just one dollar for everyone wearing pink.
The Golden Eagles are looking to build off of a momentous 71-58 win over Morehead State on Saturday night. Senior's Molly Heady and Kayla Brewer were both honored following the game, and they played up to the occasion. Heady finished with 14 points, hitting 4-for-4 from long range, and grabbed six rebounds. Brewer added 10 points, a career-high 12 rebounds, six blocked shots, four assists and two steals.
Tech (10-15/7-5 OVC) had five players in double digits. Candace Parson netted 12 and grabbed eight rebounds, Diamond Henderson scored a game-high 16 with six assists and three steals, and Hannah Goolsby scored 13.
Colonels' sophomore Shelly Harper scored a career-high 23 points, but it was not enough as the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team fell at Jacksonville State, 79-62. With the loss, EKU dropped to 13-9 (7-4 OVC) on the year. Senior Marie Carpenter scored 15 points, while freshman Michaela Hunter came off the bench to contribute 12 points and four rebounds.
Carpenter leads the Colonels this season as she averages 21.6 points and 3.1 boards. Harper joins her in double-figures by averaging 11.1; she also leads EKU in boards by averaging 6.8 per game.
"Think Pink" is a phrase derived from the first known use of a pink ribbon in the fall of 1991, when the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in its New York City race for breast cancer survivors. The pink ribbon since then has become the international symbol of breast cancer awareness.
