Good morning: Messer speaks to Cookeville Breakfast Rotary

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech women's basketball head coach Sytia Messer was the guest speaker Tuesday morning at the Cookeville Breakfast Rotary Club. The second-year head coach provided insight into the upcoming basketball season including a look at the players who will fill the roster.

Speaking to a group of approximately 75 at the Cookeville Golf Club, Messer talked about her returning players and also highlighted the incoming class, the top-ranked recruiting class in the Ohio Valley Conference.

“I had a wonderful time this morning at the Cookeville Golf Club, and enjoyed a great breakfast with the Cookeville Rotary Club," Messer said afterward. "I was blessed to be around so many great people who support Tennessee Tech women’s basketball.  I admire what they stand for in the community and was extremely honored to be a guest at their meeting this morning.”

The Cookeville Breakfast Rotary is one of 33,000 worldwide with more than 1.2 million members in over 200 countries. The clubs motto is “Service Above Self” and the main objective of the Club is service in the community, in the workplace and throughout the world.

In similar fashion, Messer's team is involved in numerous community service projects each year and does a variety of outreach activities that put her players into the community in such roles asworking with Habitat for Humanity and volunteer reading days in local schools.

Messer heads into her second season as head coach of the Golden Eagles in 2010-11. Last year she guided Tech to a 14-15 regular season record and a tie for fourth place in the OVC.
