COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Student groups who are judged to be the
"Most Spirited" in attendance will win cash prizes at each of
Tennessee Tech's seven nights of basketball in Eblen Center during
the month of February.
Beginning with the games this week, student groups who do the best
job of enhancing the atmosphere and providing a homecourt advantage
will be selected for a $250 prize for their efforts. To be eligible
for the prize, there are two key requirements for each group:
1) Each groups must be in the stands by halftime of the first
game for a doubleheader, or by the first timeout for a single
game.
2) Each group must display a sign or banner identifying their
group
Student groups are encouraged to find creative ways to display their Purple Pride.
"Our student groups are our sixth man on the court and their energy is irreplacable," head women's coach Sytia Messer said.
“We really appreciate the support from our students and it has a HUGE impact on the game," added head men's coach Mike Sutton. "Students can make such a big difference in the games and can give us a tremendous edge as our sixth man as we look to be the best team in the OVC.
“Most conference games are decided by three points or less," Sutton continued. "So we want to maximize our student support and encourage everyone to get behind their team - the Golden Eagles - as we continue our championship quest.”
Tech hosts Eastern Kentucky Thursday, with the women's game at
5:30 p.m. and the men's contest at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Tech
hosts Morehead State with tipoff at the same times as Thursday. The
Golden Eagle men's team hosts a single game Monday against Austin
Peay, beginning at 7 p.m.
