Men's golf team closes regular season at Big Blue Classic

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- One final tuneup in tournament play...that's what awaits the Tennessee Tech men's golf team Monday and Tuesday when the Golden Eagles play in the Big Blue Classic. It's the last outing of the season before the OVC Championships later this month.

Coach Craig King's team is one of 15 teams scheduled to compete in the two-day, 54-hole event in its fourth year. Hosted by Tennessee State, the Big Blue Classic will be held on King's Creek Golf Course, a par 70, Arnold Palmer-designed course near Spring Hill, Tenn. The tourney will feature 36 holes Monday beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start and the final 18 on Tuesday.

In addition to host TSU and the Golden Eagles, other teams in the field will include Savannah State, UT Martin, Murray State, John A. Logan, Morehead State, Valparaiso, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Lipscomb, Cumberland, Trevecca, Lincoln Memorial and Winston-Salem.

The course features five sets of tees that can stretch playing distance from 5,078 yards up to 6,807 yards. Par is 35 on both the front and back nines, with each consisting of three par 3s, four par 4s and two par 5s challenges.

The teams will converge on King's Creek Sunday for practice rounds.

The Golden Eagles are coming off an 11th place finish last week at the Grub Mart Intercollegiate in Alabama in which all six Tech entries posted scores in the 70s all three rounds. Freshman Sam Schrock led Tech, finishing 33rd overall.

The meet is the final event on Tech's spring schedule before the Ohio Valley Conference championships, April 25-27, in Dickson, Tenn.

Results will be posted each day on TTUsports.com when they become available.
