Cassetty paces Golden Eagles through first round at Grover Page Invitational

JACKSON, Tenn. -- Junior Tyler Cassetty toured the course with a blazing 68 Monday in the first round of the Grover Page Classic, putting him in a tie for the lead and helping the Tennessee Tech men's golf team to third place in the 15-team field.

Rains halted play Monday before the second round was finished, so play will resume Tuesday morning. The 54-hole tourney will conclude Tuesday with the third round.

The race features three Ohio Valley Conference squads battling for the top spot after 18 holes, with Morehead State (285) owning a one-shot edge on Murray State (286) and Tech in third place at 292. Jackson State (293) and Southern Illinois (294) round out the top five.

Other OVC schools in the event include Tennessee State (300) in sixth place, UT Martin (308) in 12th, and another UT Martin squad (310) in 13th place.

Cassetty carded a 33 on the front nine and 35 on the back for his 68, placing him in a tie with Maurice Jeffries of Jackson State.

Golden Eagle freshmen Mason Griffni and Sam Schrock are next for coach Craig King's squad. They each shot 74 Monday and are tied for 18th place. Greg Kitts is two shots back at 76, and Lee Maxwell one more back at 77 to complete the Golden Eagle lineup.

Travis Ramsey, who is competing individually for Tech, is tied for 28th place with a 75.
