COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- After two rounds played in Murray, Ky., on Monday, the Golden Eagles sit at fifth place in the 12-team field of the Murray State Invitational with a combined score of 595, 27 over par at the Miller Memorial Golf Club.

Lee Maxwell paced the Golden Eagles during the first round of the Invitational, leading the field of 63 after 18 of the 54-hole tournament with a two-under score of 69 on the 6,601 yard course. Junior Tyler Cassetty, TTU's no. 1 player, finished in eighth after the first round with a score of 72.

Murray State's Patrick Newcome and Hunter Ford claimed the no. 2 spot with scores of 70 each, while William Hunt and Dustin Gosser tied for sixth with 71's to put the Racers in the lead after the first 18. MUR maintained their position after 36, with the team combining for a score of 575.

Maxwell and Cassetty both faltered slightly in round two, scoring seven and four strokes higher respectively. The Tech team did, however, improve by one stroke on their first round to record a 297, allowing them to keep the five spot by four strokes over Morehead State.

Headed into the third round, the Golden Eagles are only two strokes out of fourth place, and five out of third as Belmont, UT Martin and a second Murray State team all finished in front of Tech after play on Monday.

The final 18 holes of the tournament will be played on Tuesday, with final results expected to come in mid-afternoon.
