Tennessee Tech men's golf finishes sixth of 12 overall in the Murray State Invitational

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Golden Eagles saw similar weather conditions on Tuesday for the final round of the Murray State Invitational - sunny, but chilly and breezy - but unfortunately shouldered a nine-stroke increase from their lowest card score on Monday. TTU's five-man team combined for a 306 on 18 holes on Tuesday, up from 297 in their second round of play on Monday.

Lee Maxwell continued to lead the Golden Eagles, matching his second round score of 76 to finish at 13th overall in a field of 63 and record a final score of 221 - eight over par on the 6,601-yard course. He was followed closely by teammate Tyler Cassetty, who recorded a 74 on 18 Tuesday to give him a final score of 222 and in 16th place.

Tech was edged out by Morehead State who finished in the five spot with a combined score of 895 across both days. The Golden Eagles were riding a five-stroke lead over the Eagles after both rounds on Monday, but Richard Zimheld shot four over par overall to lead the Eagles, who finished with an 895.

Murray State hung on to the top spot Tuesday, with William Hunt finishing with top honors scoring one under par with a 212 on the tournament. Cameron Carrico followed up for the Racers with a 215, matching Hunt's score of 69 on the third round.

TTU will travel to the UT Martin Skyhawk Classic next week, teeing off for the first of two rounds at 8 a.m. on Monday. Oct. 11. The teams will finish up the Classic on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
