JACKSON, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech junior Tyler Cassetty
shared the tourney lead through the first two rounds, and finished
in second place just two strokes off the pace while leading the
Golden Eagle men's golf team to a third-place showing at the
15-team Grover Page Classic.
The 54-hole tourney was hosted Monday and Tuesday by UT Martin.
Ohio Valley Conference schools grabbed the top three spots in the
standings, with Murray State first (862), Morehead State second
(884) and Tennessee Tech one shot back (885) in third place.
SOuthern Illinois (888) and Arkansas State (900) rounded out the
Top Five spots, followed by Tennessee State, Union and Jackson
State (901) tied for sixth. UT Martin (902) placed ninth with
Lipscomb and John A. Logan College tied for 10th.
Murray State's Cameron Carrico wrapped up with a third round 69
to break a tie with Cassetty and win medalist honors at 210.
Cassetty shot rounds of 69, 73 and 71 to finish second at 212.
Morehead State's Jared Flanery (217) was a distant third.
With his second-place effort, Cassetty earned all-tournament
honors for the first time this season.
Freshman Mason Griffin was the next finisher for coach Craig
King's Golden Eagles, placing 12th after shooting 74-75-72--221.
Sophomore Greg Kitts (76-75-76--227) tied for 34th place, followed
by Lee Maxwell (77-74-78--229) and Sam Schrock (74-87-77--238).
Playing individually, Travis Ramsey tied for 46th place after
shooting 75-80-75--230.
The next tourney for the Golden Eagles comes in two weeks when Tech
plays in Jacksonville State's Grub Mart Invitational, March
28-29.
