Ticket sales for Aug. 1 game will provide
donations;
Tennessee Tech hosted Dream in May exhibition game
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As organizations work to restore the
city of Nashville and surrounding areas, the WNBA Atlanta Dream is
aiding in the efforts of Restoring the Dream by giving
back to a community that has been instrumental in the success of
women’s basketball.
Tennessee Tech hosted the Dream, coached by TTU Sports Hall of
Fame coach Marynell Meadors, in an exhibition game in May in the
Eblen Center. With that connection, Tech Director of Athletics Mark
Wilson encourages area fans to consider attending the game in
Atlanta on Sunday, Aug. 1, as portions of all ticket sales will go
toward a flood recovery donation.
“We enjoyed watching the Dream and working with Coach
Meadors and the entire Atlanta organization, and we simply want to
help spread the word to basketball fans in this area about this
generous outreach,” Wilson said.
“The support that the Nashville community has provided to women’s basketball is one that is truly appreciated and deeply indebted,” said Kathy Betty, owner of the Dream. “Without the support of communities like Nashville, the game of women’s basketball would not be where it is today. The passion, dedication, loyalty and enthusiasm Nashville fans have given to the Dream, as well as local universities, has propelled the sport of women’s basketball as it continues to thrive.”
The Atlanta Dream is partnering with an established fund that is managed and administered by the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville to support those that were impacted by the May 1, 2010 floods. In doing so, the Dream will take a portion of the proceeds from tickets sales and make an in-kind donation to the United Way’s Restore the Dream campaign.
The special event will take place Sunday, Aug. 1 at 3 p.m. EDT as the Dream takes on former Tennessee star Tamika Catchings and the Indiana Fever.
A portion of all tickets sold will be donated to the United Way Restore the Dream fund.

The Atlanta Dream will host board members and other key representatives at the game and will provide the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville a chance to highlight the United Way Text to Give campaign.
