COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Fresh off their first conference win of the season, the Tennessee Tech women's cagers will square off Tuesday evening against the No. 9 Kentucky Wildcats, at 5 p.m., in Lexington, Ky.
The game against the Wildcats will be televised locally on FSN
South. The game is also available nationally on the ESPN Full Court
package via DirectTV and will be streamed on ESPN3.com.
Standing at 5-1 on the season, the Golden Eagles are looking
forward to the challenge that awaits them in Memorial
Coliseum.
"Our team is feeling loose," head coach Sytia Messer said.
"The pressure is on them to defend their home court."
Tech improved to 5-1, with a 1-0 OVC record after its 79-63
victory at Jacksonville State last Saturday. Junior guard Tacarra Hayes led
the way with her first double-double of the season with 31 points
and 10 rebounds.
Kentucky currently owns a 5-1 record, which includes a 91-59
win over OVC rival Murray State. In 13 games against the Wildcats,
both teams own an identical 6-6 record, with Tech coming away with
an 88-68 win in their last meeting during the 1988-89 season. The
official score of the 13th game (1/22/75) is in question with Tech
claiming a 98-58 win and Kentucky claiming a forfeit victory.
"I expect Kentucky to come out ready to go," Messer said.
"They're good at home and run a lot of different defenses. For us
to have success, we'll have to make the adjustments on
offense."
Opening tip between the Golden Eagles and the Wildcats is set
for 5 p.m. CT.
