Tacarra Hayes named to WBCA all-region team

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), in cooperation with State Farm®, has named Tennessee Tech junior guard Tacarra Hayes to the WBCA all-region team.

Hayes is one of six student-athletes to be named to the Region 4 all-region team, and one of 52 to be named to one of the eight all-region teams. The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team for NCAA Division I will be selected from the 52 members of the all-region teams. The All-America Team will be announced at 9 a.m. ET Saturday, April 2.

"We're all proud of Tacarra being named to the WBCA all-region team," head coach Sytia messer said. "Tacarra has worked hard both on and off the court and its good to see her get recognized on a national scale."
 
Hayes finished the 2010-11 season as the Golden Eagles leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 16.9 points and 7.5 assists per game. She recorded seven double-doubles on the season and became the 26th member of Tech's 1,000 point club and now sits 18th on Tech's all-time scoring list with 1,208 career points.
 
Along with being named to the all-region team, Hayes has also been named first-team all-OVC and the OVC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, to go along with her three OVC Player of the Week awards. For her efforts in TTU's two games in the OVC Tournament, she was named to the OVC all-tournament team.
 
Tennessee Tech finished its season with a 23-8 record, en route to its first OVC regular season championship since the 2005-06 season.
