COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team earning its 11th Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship and 12th all-time appearance in the NCAA tournament on Saturday, the Golden Eagles have another accolade to add on to an impressive season as they earned a No. 25 ranking in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25.
It is Tech's first selection in the poll since November 2023 when the Golden Eagles were picked No. 23.
The Golden Eagles won both the regular-season and tournament OVC title for the first time since the 1999-2000 campaign and for the eighth time as Tech defeated Lindenwood 82-76 in the conference title game Saturday in Evansville.
The victory gave Tech its second OVC tournament championship in the last three seasons.
Tech won its 17th straight game, which is tied for the third-longest winning streak in program history with the 1976-77 team. The program's longest is 21 games during the 1975-76 season.
The Golden Eagles have 26 overall wins, tied for the fourth-most in program history. The 1975-76 and 1976-77 teams both won 28, the 1974-75 team won 27 games and the 1973-74 and 1989-90 teams also won 26.
The 18 regular-season OVC victories tied the league record for single-season conference victories with the 2017-18 Belmont team.
Tech collected its 31st 20+ win season and seventh 25+ win season.
The Golden Eagles now await Sunday's NCAA Tournament Selection Show to see who and where they will play as the event begins next week.
