JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team continues its road trip on Saturday as the Golden Eagles will head toward Johnson City to take on East Tennessee State.
Tipoff for the game is at 1 p.m. Central. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ (subscription required).
The home-standing Bucs enter the contest with a 1-4 record. ETSU dropped the first two games of the season with an 80-55 defeat at N.C. State, followed by a 55-48 loss at home against Jackson State – who the Golden Eagles defeated at home 84-56. After a 44-42 victory at Gardner-Webb, the Bucs have fallen in two straight – a 62-61 loss at Lipscomb and a 58-51 loss at Campbell.
The Bucs currently average 51.8 points a game, while allowing 59.4. As a team, ETSU is shooting .350 from the field, .279 from 3-point range and .718 at the free-throw line. The Bucs also pull down an average of 38.4 rebounds, while also making 6.2 3-pointers a game and 5.6 free-throws a game.
ETSU, however, is also averaging 17.8 turnovers a game, while creating 13.6.
Braylyn Milton leads the Bucs in scoring with 9.8 points per game, shooting .362 from the field, .316 from long-range and 9-for-10 at the line, while collecting 5.2 rebounds per game. Kendall Folley is averaging 8.8 points and 2.6 rebounds while shooting .405 on the floor, .350 from beyond the arc and .500 at the stripe. Meghan Downing leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.8 rebounds a game, as well as blocks with seven swats.
In their last game against Campbell, Courtney Moore led ETSU with 13 points, while Folley added nine points. The Bucs shot 39.6 percent from the field while shooting 45.0 percent from 3 with nine treys.
The Golden Eagles saw their four-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night at Middle Tennessee in a 69-52 loss. Anna Walker and Peyton Carter led Tech with 10 points each, while Reghan Grimes scored nine, Keeley Carter eight and Chloe Larry seven.
Before that, the Golden Eagles opened up the campaign with an 82-54 victory over Emory & Henry, then got a buzzer-beating 48-46 victory at Chattanooga, before collecting a pair of home victories over North Alabama (73-64) and Jackson State.
As a team, Tech is scoring 67.8 points a game, while allowing 57.8. The Golden Eagles are shooting .412 from the field, .301 from 3-point range and .720 at the free-throw line while averaging 5.6 3-pointers and 15.4 free throws. Tech is also averaging 41.4 rebounds per game with opponents averaging 31.4.
Tech currently has five players scoring in double-digit scoring with Grimes averaging 12.0 points. Walker is averaging 11.0 points while pulling down a team-best 8.4 rebounds. She also needs 14 points to become the 36th 1,000-point scorer in program history. Taris Thornton (10.6), Larry (10.2) and Peyton Carter (10.0) also stand above the double-digit point mark.
Following Saturday's game in Johnson City, the Golden Eagles travel to Samford on Tuesday for a matinee, then head to Colorado on Dec. 3 before returning home on Dec. 6.
