COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Amaya Redd has already proven she knows how to win on the floor of Tennessee Tech's Hooper Eblen Center, having led Knoxville Catholic High School to back-to-back state championships in 2023 and 2024 — both played in the Golden Eagles' home arena. Now, Redd is set to make the "Hoop" her home for the next four years, as she officially signed Wednesday with Tennessee Tech University to continue her basketball career.
Redd's high school career has been highlighted by championships as she has helped guide Knox Catholic to three consecutive conference championships, two regional titles, and two state championships. Her performances in the state tournament at Tennessee Tech showcased her ability to shine in high-pressure moments, and she now looks forward to bringing that championship mentality to Tech.
A dynamic guard/forward, Redd averaged 10 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.6 steals per game during her junior season. Known for her versatility, she made an impact on both ends of the floor, contributing as a scorer, rebounder, playmaker and defender. Redd's all-around game, combined with her leadership and clutch performances, was essential to Catholic's continued success and back-to-back state titles.
"I'm so excited to officially join the Tennessee Tech family," said Redd. "Winning two state championships at the Hoop was such an unforgettable experience, and I can't wait to continue my journey here. Tennessee Tech has such a strong program and tradition. This is an environment where I can continue to grow as a person and player."
Throughout her high school career, Redd earned numerous accolades, including District MVP honors (freshman), two All-State Tournament Team selections (sophomore and junior), and an All-Region selection (junior).
Redd has blossomed as a Lady Irish player over the last two seasons under the tutelage of her coaches Travis and Missy Maines at Knox Catholic, and Rosamond believes her best basketball is ahead of her.
"Amaya's potential at the next level is off the charts, and I have no doubts her senior season is going to be a breakthrough year for her" said Coach Kim Rosamond. "She is a proven winner who has excelled in big moments and brings experience from a championship program where she's learned exactly what it takes to compete at the highest level. Her leadership, versatility, and work ethic will make an immediate impact on our program, and we are excited to have her join our Golden Eagle family as we pursue championships together."
Redd is the first Tennessee Tech signee on Wednesday with more to be announced in the next couple of days to build a strong class of Golden Eagle signees who will help shape the future of the Tennessee Tech program as well as help the team continue to compete for championships.
The Golden Eagles will look to improve to 4-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season on Thursday night as they host Jackson State at the Eblen Center at 7 p.m.
