COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team continues its winning ways, two Golden Eagles were selected for Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards as graduate guard Keeley Carter was named the OVC's Newcomer of the Week, while true freshman guard Chloe Larry won her third-straight OVC Freshman of the Week award on Tuesday.
The weekly honors are nominated and voted on by the athletic communications staff from the respective member institutions.
Carter scored 29 total points on the week, averaging 14.5 points per game, and also pulled down 10 rebounds for a 5.0 average. She shot .600 from the field as she was 9-for-15, which included a 7-for-11 effort from beyond the arch. Carter also had five assists on the week.
She scored 11 points in the 70-55 victory over UT Martin, collecting seven rebounds and three assists. Carter also led the Golden Eagles in scoring against TSU with 18 points on a 5-for-6 shooting day, which included 4-for-4 from 3-point range and was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Larry led Tech in scoring against UT Martin, collecting 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and a steal. Against the 84-71 win over in-state rival Tigers, the Bossier City, La., native had nine points, four rebounds, a steal and tied her season-high in assists with eight.
For the week, Larry scored 26 total points for a 13.0 average, while collecting 10 rebounds, 13 assists and two steals.
It is the fourth OVC award for both Carter and Larry this season and the second time this year both won the awards on the same week. Carter was named Newcomer of the Week on Dec. 10, Jan. 7 and Jan. 21, while Larry was the Freshman of the Week on Dec. 10, Feb. 11 and Feb. 18 before the awards Tuesday.
On the season as a whole, Larry is averaging 11.9 points and 4.7 rebounds, with 87 assists, three blocks and 28 steals, shooting .413 from the field, .349 from 3-point range and .835 at the free-throw line. Carter is averaging 11.4 points and 3.7 rebounds, with 75 assists, six blocks and 21 steals, shooting .472 from the field, .444 from 3-point range and .763 at the stripe.
In OVC play alone, Carter is Tech's leading scorer with a 13.7-point average, shooting .509 from the floor, .467 from 3-point range and .806 at the line. Larry is averaging 12.3 points, shooting .426 from the field, .391 from long range and .841 at the stripe.
The Golden Eagles (22-5, 16-2 OVC) look to continue their 13-game winning streak on Thursday night as they host Western Illinois at 5:30 p.m.
