Golden Eagles top Gamecocks, earn another OVC road win

JACKSONVILLE, Ala.-- The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team earned its third-straight conference road victory, topping Jacksonville State 62-50 with the help of four players scoring in double-digits.

Fundamentals proved to be the key for the Golden Eagles as they committed a season-low 14 fouls and just 13 turnovers on the day.

Tech was led by the sophomore duo of Molly Heady and Jala Harris who each had 15 points as the Golden Eagles improved to 7-4 in Ohio Valley Conference play. Heady also led the team in rebounds with seven. Seniors Rachel Glidden and Tacarra Hayes reached double-digits as Glidden scored 14 on 4-for-6 from three-point range. Hayes had all of Tech's 13 bench points and chipped in six assists.

The Golden Eagles shot 42 percent from long range, draining seven threes in the first half and totaled eight for the game. Meanwhile, Tech's defense held JSU to just 30 percent shooting (17-59) from the field.

The Gamecocks scored the first two points of the game, but it was all Tech after that. Glidden scored Tech's first nine points on three consecutive baskets from beyond the arc.

Late in the first half, the Golden Eagles went on a 12-0 run in just over two minutes to extend their lead to 17 points, a mark they would hit four times on the day. Jacksonville State answered with a 9-2 run to end the half, making the score 36-26 at the break.

Tech opened the second half on a 7-0 run, but the Gamecocks responded once again with a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 10 with more than 14 minutes to play. The Golden Eagle defense held the Gamecocks to just 23 percent shooting in the second half and only one field goal in the final 5:34 of the game.

The Golden Eagles remain on the road for another OVC contest at Austin Peay on Monday. They will then travel to Tennessee State before returning home on Feb. 13 to face conference-leading Eastern Illinois.
