Late run not enough to overcome SIU Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE,Ill. --- The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles nearly completed their second half comeback Monday evening at SIU Edwardsville, but the Cougars were able to withstand the Tech onslaught as they took the 62-54 victory.

TTU (4-11, 0-2 OVC) went into the second half down 29-21, but was able to pull within two points on three different occasions as SIUE clung desperately to its lead. After a Golden Eagle score brought TTU within a bucket at 35-33, the Cougars were able to put together a 27-21 run in the final 13:40 to claim their second ever Ohio Valley Conference victory.

Junior Jala Harris led all Golden Eagle scorers for the second straight game, as she poured in a game-high 19 points. Harris netted her 19 points on a 7-of-11 performance from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 showing from the line.

Harris was joined by seniors Tacarra Hayes and Brittany Darling who also reached double figures in scoring as Darling added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Hayes posted 12 points and five assists.

Courtney Kenner led the Cougar offense posting 13 points, while Michaela Herrod tallied nine points and eight rebounds.

SIUE had a narrow 37-34 advantage on the boards.

The Golden Eagles return home for a two-game homestand beginning Saturday with Morehead State. The opening tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
