Golden Eagles open up homestand against OVC-leading Eastern Illinois

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- With its regular season road schedule wrapped up, the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team will look to continue its solid play in the Eblen Center Monday as it host the Eastern Illinois Panthers.

The opening tip is set for 7 p.m.

This will be the 35th meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Panthers, with Tech owning the series edge at 22-12. TTU has built a 12-4 record against EIU at home. Last season, the Golden Eagles swept the season series with a 65-58 win at home and a 60-56 victory on the road.

In its last eight games, Tech has put together a 7-1 record, including a perfect 5-0 mark on the road, as it now stands in third place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. During that stretch senior Tacarra Hayes and sophomore Jala Harris have led the Golden Eagles on offense averaging 15.6 and 12.9 points per game, respectively.

Eastern Illinois (20-5, 11-1 OVC) had a 13-game winning streak snapped by UT Martin in overtime Saturday. With an 11-1 league record, EIU is now tied with UT Martin atop the OVC standings.

The Panthers are led by Ta'Kenya Nixon, who is averaging 15.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Mariah King is averaging a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game, while Mitchell Sydney is averaging 12.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
