Several championship teams to be featured at Basketball Alumni Day Feb. 25

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Calling all former Tennessee Tech basketball players, men and women, starters and reserves, from every era and every age.

Calling all Tennessee Tech basketball fans, too.

Former Golden Eagle men's and women's basketball players are invited back to campus on Saturday, Feb. 25, when the university will host its annual Basketball Alumni Day. Tech will host Murray State in an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader in Eblen Center, and one of the features of what is expected to be a busy and exciting night will be the gathering of former players, managers and coaches.

Among the special features will be the celebration of the anniversaries of several Ohio Valley Conference championship teams, including the 10-year lookback at the 2001-02 men’s and women’s teams. The halftime actitivies will also spotlight the 20-year anniversary of the 1991-92 women’s squad and 25-year recognition of the 1986-87 women's squad, both of which won the conference title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament under coach Bill Worrell, as well as the 30-year anniversary of the 1981-82 OVC champions under coach Marynell Meadors.

The 2011-12 women’s basketball season also marks the 30th anniversary of the Golden Eagles first of 10 appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Special recognition will also be reserved for any returning members of the 1931-32 men's basketball team which captured the Mississippi Valley Conference championship, as well as the women's team that won the TCWSF district and regional crowns before advancing to the AIAW regional and national tournements.

The women's game vs. Murray State tips off at 5:30 p.m., with the men's contest to follow at 7:30 p.m., but the activities for Alumni Day begin earlier in the day.

All former women’s players invited to the visit the Eagles Nest between games, and tae part in a Meet-and-Greet on the floor following the conclusion of the men's game.
