Dillard named player of the week by College Sports Madness

Junior guard averaged 20.3 points, 9.3 rebounds over three victories

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech junior guard Jud Dillard has been named Player of the Week in the Ohio Valley Conference by College Sports Madness for his performance in victories over SIU Edwardsville, Austin Peay and Jacksonville State.

Dillard came up just shy of averaging a double-double over the three games, scoring 20.3 points and bringing down 9.3 rebounds per contest. He was nearly automatic at the free-throw line, going 21-for-23 (91.3 percent) while also notching four steals.

He became the 34th member of Tech’s 1,000-point club against SIUE, finishing with six points. He reached the milestone on a layup with 5:30 left in the first half. Dillard also notched his 500th career rebound in the game, becoming one of just 15 Tech players all-time to score both 1,000 points and pull down 500 rebounds.

Against Austin Peay, Dillard tied his career-high with 29 points and set a new career-high for free throws in a game, going 13-for-14 at the charity stripe. He also pulled down nine rebounds and hit two crucial free throws to build Tech’s lead back to four with under 20 seconds left.

He notched his sixth double-double of the season against Jacksonville State, leading the Golden Eagles in both scoring and rebounding with 26 points on 9-for-13 shooting and 12 boards. Much of his production came early in the game – at the 11:42 mark of the first half, he had already accumulated 14 points.

Once again, he delivered two late free-throws to help the Golden Eagles seal the win.

Along with senior guard Kevin Murphy, Dillard is part of the No. 2 scoring duo in NCAA Division I. He is averaging 18.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game on the season.
