Harris earns third OVC Newcomer of the Week award

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --- After helping the Golden Eagles to a decisive 88-51 win over Murray State Saturday, in front of a record 6,512 fans at Eblen Center, Tennessee Tech junior Jala Harris was named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week Monday.

This is the third time Harris has received the award since taking the court in late December, and the second time in three weeks.

Harris earned the award after posting a game-high 18 points, while shooting 50 percent from the field. She also connected on 3-of-6 attempts from three-point land and tallied two steals.

UT Martin’s Jaclissa Haislip was named the OVC Player of the Week, while SIU Edwardsville’s Katie Hempen received the OVC Freshman of the Week award.

With an 11-5 conference record, TTU earned the No. 3 seed in the OVC Tournament and will play Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville. Following its first-round bye, Tech will take on the winner of Wednesday’s game between Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee State.
