Golden Eagles conclude Preseason WNIT with home game against Long Island

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- After a rough game against No. 22 UCLA last weekend, the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team will get to wrap up the Preseason WNIT Friday, as it hosts Long Island, at 7 p.m.

This will be the first meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Blackbirds.

So far on the season, a pair of veteran players including senior Tacarra Hayes and junior Kellie Cook, have led TTU in scoring and rebounds.

Hayes, who tallied a team-high 13 points against UCLA, is currently averaging 17 points, six assists and five rebounds per game. Kellie Cook, who scored a career-high 36 points against East Tennessee State, is averaging a team-high 22.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Long Island advanced to the its consolation game against Tech after a 60-52 win over Drexel and 54-45 loss to Hartford. The Blackbirds are led by a pair of players including Ashley Palmer, who tallied a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Hartford, and Ebony Davis, who notched a double-double against Drexel with 18 points and 17 rebounds.

Season tickets are on sale for the 2011-12 season and can be purchased at the Athletic Ticket Office in Eblen Center, or by calling (931) 372-3940. The game against Long Island is not part of the season ticket packages and has to be purchased separately.
