Setting the Stage
The Golden Eagles have a perfect 8-0 record against the Zips, with their last meeting taking place  Feb. 9, 1987 in Cookeville. Tech came away with a 78-57 win. Tech will face a tough Zip team, as both teams enter the contest 1-0.

A Glance at the 2012-13 Golden Eagles
The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles will serve host to the Akron Zips for the first time since 1987 in their first true test of the 2012 season. Tech, led by new coach Jim Davis, is 1-0 on the season after defeating Tennessee Wesleyan, 89-47, in its season opener.

The Golden Eagles were led by preseason all-OVC selection Jala Harris and sophomore Diamond Henderson with 16 points, while freshman Quira Demery tallied 11 points. T'Keyah Williams added seven points and Kellie Cook added five, both leading the team with six rebounds apiece.

A Look at the Zips

The Akron Zips also enter Tuesday's game with a 1-0 record, after holding Hiram to 24 points, and winning 83-24. The Zips were picked third in the MAC East Division, but fell first in several statistical categories last season. They are sharp shooters from several spots on the court, and could be a challange in the paint for the Golden Eagles young backcourt. The  Zips averaged 73.8 points per game last season.
