COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Jim Davis had his first recruit sign her National Letter of Intent Wednesday morning. Shunice Herron is the first Golden Eagle of the 2013-14 class. 

Herron, a 5-5 point guard and 1,000-point scorer from Bolivar, Tenn., has made her decision to play basketball for the Golden Eagles and couldn't be more excited to join the purple and gold. 

"Words cannot express the way I feel right now," said Herron. "Signing with Tech, it means a lot. I'm really going to have to prepare for the college game, but I think I can hang. I need to be stronger with the ball and work on my strength and conditioning, but I want to lead this team and be a part of something bigger than myself."

Herron is an athletic point guard with the ability to utilize her impressive speed and quickness to attack on the break. The 1,000 point scorer loves the game and provided a whirlwind of excitement around Bolivar Central High School Lady Tiger basketball for the past three-plus years.

BCHS head coach Rick Rudesill will be sad to see Herron go, but what's on the horizon for the true point guard has the Golden Eagles itching for Herron to wear Tech colors.

"Tech will benefit from the pride Shunice takes in her defense," said Rudesill. "Many freshman come into a program and have to adjust to an offense before defense, but Shunice is a quick learner and will play hard on both ends of the court."

Davis has seen a spark in Herron's play and knows she will be a great addition to the 2013-14 team.

"Shunice Herron is as quick as a hiccup," Davis said. "She's a true point guard that loves to distribute. She'll break you down with a dribble-drive. She has great leadership qualities and we are certainly excited to have her take on the role of floor general."
