COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With success on the course, Tennessee Tech men's golf has also shown success in the classroom as the Golden Eagles see one of their own repeat as a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Tuesday with Haden Maxwell making his second-straight appearance on the team.
Maxwell's selection extends Tech's streak to 10 times in the last 11 years to receive at least one member of the men's golf team on the academic honor roll among some of the toughest requirements in all of collegiate athletics.
"This is a fantastic honor for Haden," said Tech men's golf head coach Polk Brown. "He has continued to show why he has been the standard for our program over the last couple of years. He has done exemplary work in the classroom and, on the golf course, has been no different. I'm very proud of him."
In all, 556 Division I golfers from 190 schools were selected. To be eligible for nomination, the student-athlete had to be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically across all levels of the NCAA and NAIA, or have received their associate's degree and in their final year of eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they had to compete in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade point average of 3.2.
Maxwell was strong on the course this season for the Golden Eagles. Across 26 total rounds, he posted a 73.08 stroke average. His best showing this season included a fifth-place overall finish at the Grover Page Classic, where he collected a 6-under for the tournament. Maxwell was named to the All-OVC second team in April. The business management major from Soddy Daisy currently maintains a cumulative 3.23 GPA.
Tech was one of five Ohio Valley Conference institutions with members on the team, joining golfers from Little Rock, SIUE, Southern Indiana and UT Martin.
