Purple and gold through two rounds at Pinetree Intercollegiate

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team finished off the first two rounds of the Pinetree Intercollegiate Monday afternoon, completing two tours around Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga.

Through 36 holes, the purple and gold ranked 10th overall following rounds of 324 and 319 for a total of 643. Host Kennesaw State led the field of 10 teams with a 591 after scores of 304 and 287 on its home course. KSU's Claes Borregaard and Georgia State's Connor MacMillan shared the individual lead with matching scores of 143.

Just two shots back of the leaders and pacing the Golden Eagles was Haden Maxwell, tying for fourth with a two-round tally of 145. In the opening round, the junior carded a 1-under 71 behind four birdies and followed it up with a 2-over 74 with another three birdies in round two.

Ranking 53rd, sophomore Alex Broyles racked up seven birdies on the day, including five alone in the second round. He totaled 163 for the day, turning in rounds of 87 and 76. Finishing one stroke behind his teammate was fellow sophomore Matthew Shull, producing rounds of 84 and 80 for a 164 with four total birdies.

Freshmen Drew Bolton and Spencer Stuke wrapped up the Tech competitors, with Bolton tallying rounds of 82 and 89 for a total of 171. Stuke totaled 177 after turning in scores of 87 and 90.

The Golden Eagles will open the third and final round of action with tee times beginning at 7:45 a.m. CT Tuesday on the 10th hold at Pinetree Country Club.
