JACKSON, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team completed the first round of action at the rain-shortened Grover Page Classic Monday afternoon, as poor course conditions forced the delay of action at Jackson Country Club until 1:00 p.m. CT.

With the Jackson area receiving more than two inches of rain over Sunday evening, the course was deemed unplayable until later in the afternoon, forcing the change to a 36-hole event. The second and final round will take place Tuesday.

The Golden Eagles finished day one of play ranked 10th in the field of 15 teams, producing a 1-under 287. Morehead State and Austin Peay tied for the overall lead with matching 13-under 275s. The Eagles' Nolan Piazza led all individuals with a 7-under 65 for the day. 

Pacing the Cookeville crew with a 3-under 69 was junior Haden Maxwell. The veteran carded six birides to tie for 12th overall in the field of 99 golfers. Sophomore Matthew Shull tied for 40th while racking up six birdies of his own, ending the day at even-par with a 72.

Making his collegiate debut by tying for 50th, Drew Bolton delivered three birdies on his way to a 1-over 73. The freshman also fired his first career eagle, dialing up a three on the par-5 15th hole. Also tied for 50th with a 73, sophomore Alex Broyles piled up two birdies and 13 pars throughout the day.

Rounding out the Tech lineup and making his own collegiate debut, rookie Spencer Stuke turned in a 78 after producing his first career birdie on the 15th. Competing as an individual, fellow freshman Hil Thompson also posted a 78 while tallying three birdies along the way.
