Round one at Mountaineer Invitational in books for Tech men, second round delayed due to weather

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team finished a little over a round of action on the opening day of the Mountaineer Invitational on Monday, working about halfway through round two of play at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.Va.

Due to inclement weather, including lighting in the area, round two was called off for the day and will resume at 7:45 a.m. CT on Tuesday morning. Round three will follow with a rolling start.

The Golden Eagles tied for 14th in the 18-team field following the first round of the day, recording a 309. No. 4 nationally ranked Oklahoma State topped the leaderboard by 10 strokes after firing an 11-under 277. Kentucky's Jack Schoenberger paced the 100-man field individually, tearing off a 6-under 66.

Tying for 18th to lead the purple and gold was freshman Drew Bolton, carding a 1-over 73 for the first round. The rookie racked up a team-best three birdies to go with 11 pars. 

Junior Haden Maxwell sat two shots back following an opening-round tally of 75, picking up a pair of birdies with 11 pars of his own to tie for 29th. Next on the leaderboard for the Cookeville crew, sophomore Alex Broyles tied for 69th with a score of 79, backed by two birdies.

Wrapping up day one tied for 89th were freshman Spencer Stuke and sophomore Matthew Shull, each turning in an 82. The rookie Stuke supplied a couple of birdies in his round, and the youngster Shull produced one birdie.
