Purple and gold cap off final round of SIUE Dolenc Invitational

MADISON, Ill. – The first week of action is officially in the books for the Tennessee Tech men's golf team, as the Golden Eagles concluded play at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill. Tuesday afternoon.

Tech ended the first event of the 13th among the 18 teams in competition, posting a three-day total of 872 to edge Green Bay by a stroke. The purple and gold turned in a final round of 295. Host SIUE won its own tournament by four shots over Wichita State, delivering an 837 for the three rounds of play. Bradley's Connor Hamm took home individual medalist honors after firing a 13-under 200 for the week.

Junior Haden Maxwell led the way for the Golden Eagles, tying for 26th among the 99 competitors with a three-day final of 214. He racked up two birdies and 13 pars as part of a 2-over 73 for the day. 

Completing his first collegiate event, Hil Thompson tied for 37th overall while carding a 217 total and a 76 for his final day of work. Sophomore Matthew Shull tied for the team lead on the day with a 2-over 73, concluding his first action in the purple and gold tied for 56th with a 222.

Senior Alexander Bassel backed up his career-low round of 69 to finish Monday's action with a 2-over 73 on Tuesday, piling up 14 pars and a birdie on his way to a composite 224. Rounding out the Tech lineup, sophomore Alex Broyles registered a 229 after finishing things off with a round of 77.

Next on the docket for the Golden Eagles is a trip to Jackson, Tenn. and Jackson Country Club for UT Martin's Grover Page Classic. The event will run from Monday, Sept. 16 through Tuesday, Sept. 17.
