Purple and gold finish round one of OVC Championships

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team completed the opening round of the 2025 Ohio Valley Conference Championships on Sunday, ending the first trip around Dalhousie Golf Club tied for ninth.

The Golden Eagles matched the first-round effort of Bryant on the day, recording a 302 to tie for ninth among the 11 teams in contention. Little Rock topped the leaderboard after firing a round of 282. UT Martin's Jonathan Xoinis paced the field of 55 golfers with a 4-under 68.

Leading the purple and gold in round one of action was sophomore Matthew Shull, carding three birdies and 11 pars for a 1-over 73. The youngster concluded his first career round of OVC Tournament play tied for 17th.

Squared on the leaderboard at the No. 32 position, junior Haden Maxwell and freshman Spencer Stuke each recorded first-round efforts of 76. Maxwell piled up a team-high four birdies on the day while Stuke finished with three birdies.

Completing the Tech lineup and tying for 40th overall, youngsters Alex Broyles and Drew Bolton each tallied rounds of 77 on opening day. The sophomore Broyles turned in a pair of birdies while the rookie Bolton locked down three birdies on the day.

Round two of the OVC Championships at Dalhousie Golf Club is set to open Monday morning with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. CT.
