COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech women's basketball head coach Kim Rosamond announced an important and final addition to the 2017-2018 roster with the signing of junior college transfer Kentoria Alexander on Tuesday.
"Kentoria comes from a championship program at Walters State," said Rosamond. "She has been part of two national tournament teams and has played against elite Division I talent the last two years. I am excited about her ability to add to our backcourt with her speed, ball handling ability and defensive presence. She is extremely unselfish and does a great job of setting her teammates up for success, and she is also a strong rebounder at the guard position."
Alexander, a 5-foot-7 guard from Tullahoma, Tenn., transfers to Tech via Walters State Community College. This past season, she started in all 33 contests and averaged 25.8 minutes, 6.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Alexander finished in the Top 40 in the country in assists at 4.0 per game while helping lead the Lady Senators to a 26-7 record.
During Alexander's career at Walters State, the team continued to add to their rich tradition as they went 59-8 in two seasons while winning two TCCAA State Championships, two NJCAA Region VII Championships and advancing to two NJCAA National Tournaments. She also made her mark on the record books as she finished 11th in career assists and sixth in career steals.
"When deciding on a school, I was looking for something different as well as somewhere I could fit in," remarked Alexander. "Tennessee Tech had everything I was looking for, including high standards academically and on the court. On my visit, Coach Rosamond told me she always wanted me to be the best I could be and to strive to do whatever I wanted athletically and academically. After my visit I needed some time to think about my decisions. When everything finally settled, I realized I wanted to be a part of this successful program. It is truly a blessing to be a Golden Eagle and I honestly couldn't be more excited."
Alexander will join a stellar class of eight signees to finalize Tech's 2017 recruiting efforts. The incoming class will combine with six returnees from a team that advanced to the OVC Tournament for the first time in two years.
Athletic Honors: Sophomore Season - MVP of the NJCAA Region VII Tournament held at Walter's State; led her team to the NJCAA Region VII Tournament and advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament in Lubbock, TX; defeated Tyler, TX in the first round and fell in the second round to Junior College Powerhouse Chipola College out of Florida.
Personal: Alexander's aunt, Tynisha Alexander, played for the Golden Eagles from 2001-2005.
