COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—@TTUWBB head coach Kim Rosamond announced another important addition to the 2017-2018 roster with the signing of junior college transfer Lacy Cantrell on Thursday.

"Lacy brings a physical presence to our team along with much-needed size and experience," Rosamond remarked. "She can rebound, defend, and has great hands as well as a high basketball I.Q. I love her energy on the court and the passion she has for the game and her teammates. Lacy will be a valuable addition both on the floor and in the community. We look forward to her wearing the Purple and Gold for the next two years."

Cantrell, a 6-2 forward from Knoxville, Tn., transfers to Tech via Roane State where she played two seasons for Coach Monica Boles. As a sophomore, she averaged 13.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game and led her team to a 16-15 record in one of the toughest regions in the junior college ranks. Cantrell was named TCCAA First-Team All-Conference this past season and earned TCCAA All-Academic honors both her freshman and sophomore years.  

"While searching for a school, it was important for me to find the best fit athletically as well as academically," Cantrell said. "I found that and so much more with Tennessee Tech. Being recruited, I remember Coach Rose sitting me down and telling me how she doesn't want to just be great at one thing but instead strive for excellence in every area of her life. That resonated with me and I could feel a spark that had the potential to set flame to the whole program. In that moment, I knew I wanted to have the chance to be part of that greatness."

Cantrell will join a stellar class of seven November signees to finalize Tech's 2017 recruiting efforts.  The incoming class will combine with six returnees from a team that advanced to the OVC Tournament for the first time in two years.

Academic Honors: National Honor Society secretary; graduated with a 4.2 GPA.

Athletic Honors: 2013-14 All-District  honoree; 2013-14 All-District Tournament team; played for Coach Jennifer Galloway at Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville, Tenn.; finished high school career with 510 points and 309 rebounds despite missing extensive time due to injury.

Personal: Her father Rick (former TTU men's basketball player) and mother Cynthia are both Tennessee Tech graduates; brother Derrick is a senior at TTU.
