Frank Davis earns OVC co-Player of the Week honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Frank Davis has taken his game to a new level, and has caught the attention of the Ohio Valley Conference. The 6-foot-2 senior guard for the Tennessee Tech men's basketball team was named OVC co-Player of the Week Monday after averaging 21.5 points per game in wins over Union College and Southeast Missouri.

Davis exploded this week with back-to-back 20-point games. He hit 5-of-9 3-pointers against Union and finished with 20 points before knocking down 6-of-10 from long range and scoring 23 points in Tech's win over SEMO, as the Golden Eagles extended their winning streak to four games. One of the leagues best shooters, Davis hit 62.5 percent (15-of-24) of his shots on the week. He also hit both of his free throw attempts on the week, and averaged three rebounds per game. Davis is just 11 3-pointers away from owning Tech's all-time record for 3-pointers made.

"Frank played well, he did a great job for us in some extended minutes against Union," Tennessee Tech head coach Mike Sutton said. "He really likes to play against SEMO, particularly in their gym, and had another good game against them. I thought he stepped it up really well. He's a senior and that's what we've been looking for."

Davis is averaging a team-high 14.4 points per game on the season, and has reached the 20-point mark four times. He has scored in double figures in eight straight games, and ranks first in the OVC in 3-pointers made, second in 3-point percentage, and tenth in scoring.

Morehead State's Kenneth Faried, the OVC preseason Player of the Year shared the weekly honor with Davis. Faried averaged 13.5 points and 17 rebounds per game in a pair of wins for Morehead State. Faried and the Eagles will square off against Tech on Thursday night in Eblen Center.

The Golden Eagles will put their four-game win streak on the line Monday night when they travel to Eastern Illinois in an OVC showdown. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
