Tennessee Tech men's basketball to be televised nationally on ESPNU

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech men's basketball team will get a chance to showcase its program in front of a national audience when it takes on UT Martin in Martin, Tenn., on Jan. 14. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.

"We're always excited about the opportunity to play on national TV," Tennessee Tech head coach Mike Sutton said. "It'll be against the defending Ohio Valley Conference champions, so that will be a great opportunity for our program. It's late in the year, so both teams will be in late-season form, playing some of their best basketball of the year."

The Golden Eagles will also be televised locally for an additional five games. Tech's home games against Morehead State on Jan. 7, Austin Peay on Jan. 21, Tennessee State on Jan. 23, Murray State on Feb. 11 and UT Martin on Feb. 13 will all be televised on WCTE-TV.

The Ohio Valley Conference announced its full slate of basketball games on the ESPN Family of Networks for the 2009-10 season on Thursday. The schedule includes 13 total games that will air on either ESPN2 or ESPNU during the year.

The ESPN2 regular season contest pits rivals Murray State and Austin Peay at the Dunn Center on January 9. The OVC Men's Basketball Tournament Championship game will also air on ESPN2.  The OVC Tournament semifinals (which will air on ESPNU) and finals will be held at the Sommet Center in Nashville on March 5-6.

Additional games (non-conference) that will be broadcast on national, regional or local television networks will be released at a later date.

ESPNU launched on March 4, 2005 with the Southeast Missouri State/Eastern Kentucky OVC Tournament semifinal contest being the first event aired live on the network. The ESPNU schedule features more than 550 live events (regular-season and championships) annually. Action includes a variety of top football and men's and women's basketball mixed with baseball, softball, volleyball, lacrosse, ice hockey, wrestling and more.  ESPNU also offers comprehensive studio programming, such as SportsCenterU and simulcasts of ESPN Radio's The Herd with Colin Cowherd, replays of ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Regional Television games, plus specials and more.

Each season, ESPNU televises nearly 250 men's and women's basketball games, including regular season and conference tournament matchups from a wide variety of schools representing 27 different conferences.

The network also has a wide-ranging, long-term agreement with the NCAA calling for extensive coverage of 22 NCAA Championships, including sports from each of the three collegiate seasons. ESPNU is available nationwide in more than 46 million households and has long-term carriage agreements with nine of the top 10 providers - Charter, Comcast, Cox, DirecTV (Channel 614), DISH Network (Channel 148), Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS TV and AT&T U-verse.
