COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - There's no place like home. And that's exactly where the Tennessee Tech men's basketball team will be spending its time for the rest of the month. The Golden Eagles kick off a four-game Ohio Valley Conference home stand with a match up with in-state rival Austin Peay Thursday night in Eblen Center. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

After playing five of their first seven OVC games on the road, the Golden Eagles will also host Tennessee State (Jan. 23), Eastern Illinois (Jan. 28) and Southeast Missouri (Jan. 30) before hitting the road again.

Tech enters the game against Austin Peay at 8-10 overall and 2-5 in the OVC. APSU holds a 10-9 overall record, and a 4-3 mark in league play.

The Governor's are led by Wes Channels and Anthony Campbell. Channels is averaging 15.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, while hitting over 40 percent of his 3-point attempts. Meanwhile, Campbell is scoring 15.4 points per game to go along with 5.1 rebounds.

APSU enters the game as the league's worst 3-point defensive team, allowing opponents to hit 39.2 percent of their long-range attempts. That stat could haunt the Gov's as Tech ranks No. 1 in the league in 3-point shooting, hitting 41.4 percent from beyond the arc, and averaging over six made 3-pointers per game.

The Golden Eagles are led by Frank Davis and Kevin Murphy. Davis has made a name for himself as one of the best 3-point shooters in the nation, hitting 49.5 percent of his 3-point attempts and averaging 15.1 points per game. Davis is shooting 48.8 percent from the field and also averages 2.6 rebounds per game, and is a perfect 23-for-23 from the free throw line in OVC play.

Murphy is also averaging 15.1 points per game to go along with 3.4 rebounds and is coming off a 9-of-11 shooting performance when he scored a game-high 22 points against Murray State. Elijah Cunningham-Muhammad is averaging 11.7 points and a team-high 4.6 assists per game, while Alfred Jones leads the team with 5.1 rebounds per game to go along with 8.3 points.

Tech ranks second in the OVC in scoring offense, putting up 76.1 points per game, while APSU is scoring and allowing 72.4 points per game.

The two teams have met 130 times before Thursday night, and Austin Peay holds a slim 67-63 advantage in the all-time series. The Gov's have won four straight against Tech.

The game will be the second half of a double header with the Tennessee Tech women's team, which hosts Austin Peay at 5:30 p.m. Thursday night. Tech Students, Families with Soldiers deployed with 278th as well as area youth participating in the Upward and Vision Basketball programs receive free admission to all Tech home basketball games. In addition, the first 1,000 Tech students will receive a free Tech Attack T-shirt, and a coupon for a free soft drink and popcorn at the game.
