COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The 2009-10 Tennessee Tech men’s basketball regular season will come to a close Saturday night in Eblen Center, but not without a bang. Tech seniors Frank Davis and Elijah Muhammad will be honored before the game as the Golden Eagles take on Jacksonville State in a battle for the No. 6 seed in next week’s Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

The Golden Eagles and Gamecocks enter the contest tied at 7-10 in OVC play. Tech is 13-16 overall while JSU is 11-17 on the season. JSU is leading the league in free throw percentage, hitting 73.6 percent of its foul shots as a team. The Gamecocks are led by Nick Murphy, who is seventh in the league in scoring at 14.3 points per game. Murphy is hitting 55.1 percent from the field, and is also third on the OVC in rebounding with 7.7 boards per game

Tech is led by sophomore Kevin Murphy who is coming off a career-high 25 points against Appalachian State last week. Murphy is fifth in the OVC in scoring averaging 15.4 points per game.

Seniors Frank Davis and Elijah Muhammad, who will be playing their last home game as a Golden Eagle, have been major contributors for Tech this season. Davis is second on the team in scoring with 14.2 points per game and is first in the OVC, and among the nations leaders, in 3-point field goal percentage and 3-pointers made. Davis broke the Tech record for  all-time 3-pointers made earlier this season, and has 248 for his career. Davis joined Tech’s 1,000-point club this year and is among Tech’s all-time leadres in steals and assists.

Muhammad leads the Golden Eagles and is second in the OVC in assists, averaging 4.5 per game, and is third on the team in scoring with 12.2 points per game. In just two seasons at Tech he has moved up to 19th in school history in career assists, with 218 entering Saturday’s game.

Tech owns a slim 9-8 advantage in the all-time series against Jacksonville State, including an 83-72 loss at JSU earlier this season. Tech is 5-5 in its last 10 meetings with the Gamecocks.

Tech will learn its OVC tournament fate after playing Jacksonville State, and is likely to face Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky or Eastern Illinois with a win, or Morehead State with a loss.
