Tech president named collegesportsmadness.com Cheerleader of the Week

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech president Dr. Philip Oldham has been quite vocal in his support of Golden Eagle athletics since his arrival at Tech in July. In addition to writing about it in his blog, Dr. Oldham participated in a video helping to promote support for the Golden Eagle football team.

Collegesportsmadness.com took notice of the president's efforts and has recognized him as the national "cheerleader" of the week. Oldham's support of Tech athletics has been unwavering in his first few months at the university, evidenced by his presence at several different events ranging from Purple Pride caravans to an array of home games and matches for Tech teams, to the Insider's Lunch hosted by football coach Watson Brown.

"I am honored to lead an institution that has such tremendous community support for both academics and athletics," says Dr. Oldham. "I hope students and fans know how much our student-athletes, and everyone at the university, appreciate their attendance at our sporting events.

On top of his physical appearance being a tremendous asset to the Tech athletic effort, Dr. Oldham also expresses his support by way of the written word through his blog.

"We do love our college football in the South, but I also realize that not everyone is an avid sports fan or knows a fullback from a linebacker.  Still, I'm asking you to choose our opening football game as an opportunity to support our Golden Eagles.  We're coming off an Ohio Valley Conference championship season in 2011 with great optimism about repeating this year.  The game kicks off this Thursday at 7 p.m.  I encourage everyone to come support your team and create memories.  Join a tailgate, eat a hotdog, wear your school colors, listen to the marching band, cheer on the Eagles, and most of all enjoy this awesome Tennessee Tech community.  Yes, it's a Southern thing, but more than that it's a Tech Thing!"
